Fresh off the state’s first-ever elk hunt, Virginia will celebrate elk at the Southern Gap Elk Fest on October 20-22, 2022. The SW Coalfields Chapter of the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation is among several organizations sponsoring the three-day event.
The gathering includes several elk-related activities such as a guided tour of Virginia’s elk herd. Registration is required as is a $10 fee. If interested, call 276-244-1111 to reserve a spot. There will also be a workshop about the successful elk restoration project that began in 2012 with the assistance of the Virginia Department of Wildlife Resources, RMEF and others.
Other activities include a wild game dinner, hands-on activities for kids and adults, birding, weaving, an ATV hunt and camping.
The Southern Gap Elk Fest takes place at 1124 Chipping Sparrow Lane in Grundy. Admission to daily events is free.
