It was December of 1997 when wildlife officials released seven elk onto their native Kentucky range. Among those on hand were a number of volunteers with the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation.
RMEF also pledged one million dollars to make it happen.
Kentucky is celebrating the 20-year anniversary of that reintroduction with a herd numbering more than 20,000. It’s also giving a tip of the hat to RMEF by including the organization’s logo in its anniversary logo.
