A research student in north-central Washington says she climbed a tree to escape a pack of wolves and then used a cellphone to call authorities for help. The Okanagan County Sheriff’s Office reports she is safe.
According to KHQ-TV, the Washington Department of Natural Resources dispatched a helicopter to the area near the Tiffany Springs Campground, a popular location for recreationists. The helicopter crew reported wolves in the immediate area that scattered as the chopper landed.
The sheriff’s office plans to investigate the incident on site.
“If these types of situations are going to become a common occurrence, we would like to be prepared for potential encounters in the future,” said Sheriff Frank Rogers.
