To help prevent the spread of chronic wasting disease, the Montana Fish and Wildlife Commission voted to implement rules regarding the disposal of elk, deer and moose carcasses across Montana.
Specifically, the ruling requires elk, deer and moose hunters to either leave the head and spinal column of animals where they harvested them or take them to a to a designated landfill. Only the parts suitable for food or finished taxidermy mounts may be transported within Montana.
The commission did request the rule’s actual wording be refined for the sake of clarity.
The requirements do not apply to any governmental agency or educational institution.
