Search and rescue teams are scouring the terrain in southwest South Dakota seeking a missing hunter. Authorities say Larry Genzlinger and his nephew separated (on 10/1/2019) near Deerfield Lake in the Black Hills National Forest but did not show up at their rendezvous spot.
Rain and fog initially complicated the search and did not allow aerial teams to participate but a helicopter joined the effort a few days later. Horseback riders and K9 teams are also involved.
Complicating the situation is Genzlinger’s health. He has congestive heart failure and diabetes. He has been without insulin for several days.
Genzlinger was wearing a camouflage jacket and pants as well as a black Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation cap, of which is he is a member.
