Leaf peepers come for the last glimpses of aspen turning gold. Wildlife watchers come to experience the elk “rut” when the males bugle and battle for dominance and the right to breed.
It makes for an interesting time to hike, camp or visit Mueller State Park west of Colorado Springs. Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW) has a number of guided hikes and naturalist programs to help visitors enjoy this beautiful season.
Also, CPW continues its series of Fall Challenge Hikes which range from moderate to difficult. Participants are asked to bring 2 liters of water, snacks, rain gear and layers.
