A judge in Thurston County, Washington, issued an order permitting the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife to lethally remove the collared male member of the Togo wolf pack that repeatedly preyed on livestock. Wildlife officials then followed up and took that action.
Some Washingtonians were upset with another judge who previously issued a temporary restraining order filed by out-of-state environmental groups that denied wildlife officials from removing the wolf even though it met the criteria for removal.
The Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation maintains that state agencies should maintain the responsibility to manage all wildlife, including wolves, in accordance with the North American Wildlife Conservation Model.
