Three letters that hunters are hearing a lot about and should pay especially close attention to are C-W-D, which is short for chronic wasting disease. It is a complex issue.
Outdoor Life recently posted an article about the four things hunters need to know about CWD. They are as follows:
- CWD continues to creep
- Hunters can help manage it
- CWD testing is complex
- CWD is much different than EHD
CWD is a fatal neurological (brain and nervous system) disease found in cervids – deer, elk and moose. The disease attacks the brains of infected animals and produces small lesions that result in death. There is no cure; once an animal is infected, it will die.
For more information about CWD, go to the Chronic Wasting Disease Alliance website.
