An experienced Arkansas deer hunter died after the buck he shot rose to its feet and gored him.
“I’ve worked for the Game and Fish Commission for 20 years, and it’s one of the stranger things that’s happened,” Keith Stephens, Arkansas Game and Fish Commission spokesman, told KYTV-TV.
Authorities say 66-year-old Thomas Alexander shot a buck with his muzzleloader near Yellville in the northern part of the state. He apparently approached the animal after some time and thought it was dead but it got up and attacked the man, leaving him with several puncture wounds.
Alexander was alone at the time but he did call his family which called medical personnel. Alexander later died at a hospital.
An autopsy will not take place so it’s not known if the man died from the wounds, from a heart attack or other issue.
