Elk hunting cartridges and calibers, at least in Randy Newberg’s opinion, does not require super magnums. Deer cartridges/calibers, with good bullets, placed in the right place, make excellent elk cartridges. I prefer a .308 Win. I often use a .300 Win Mag, depending upon distance and conditions. I try to get as close as possible. Distance amplifies human error and influence of environmental conditions.
