Jaywalking, loitering…call it what you will. Whatever the terminology, the bottom-line is the Idaho State police could not issue a ticket but had a really, really difficult time hazing a cow elk off a highway near the Idaho-Washington border. A nearby driver caught the encounter on video and giggled through most of it.
The elk uncharacteristically showed no fear of humans and would not leave Highway 53 for about half an hour near Hauser, Idaho, which is about 25 miles east of Spokane, Washington. In fact, at one point the cow poked its head inside the patrol car.
“This young gal poked her head in the window of Trooper Branch’s cruiser while we were trying to move them off the road. Use caution in the area,” tweeted the Idaho State Police.
